Chandelier styles continue to change as our lifestyles, needs, and wants change also. Today we see much more of an attention paid to authentic details in fixture construction as well as finishes. There are so many to choose from that it is hard to know where to begin.
Matte finishes such as brushed nickel, aged and weathered patinas, and brushed steel provide a chandelier with more depth than one of a polished brass or stainless steel. They tend to blend more with the décor. Since our homes are becoming more informal, chandeliers are starting to be painted and have textured finishes more often then they used to be.
When most of us think of chandeliers we think of gold or crystal but with the finishes available now, you can choose from a variety of colors and finishes to match perfectly with the room you are furnishing. Different finishes evoke different styles. For example if you have chrome finish then you are more likely to have a modern or art deco home. If you have a black painted chandelier you are more likely to have a rustic or informal home.
While brass used to be the finish that most people choose, it is changing to a nickel finish or pewter which people are buying up at rapid speed. You need to go with what works best with the era and feel of your home. The chandelier is going to be a focal point; you want to make sure it fits in well.
