It seems like nowadays everyone is looking for the next “shabby chic” piece of art, furniture, or chandelier to add style to their home. Distressed chandeliers are definitely considered shabby chic, which are very much in style right now.

A distressed finish is simply a decorative painting technique in which the final paint coat is sanded and battered to produce an aged effect. Mostly done to furniture and cabinets it is now making a statement as a finish to a beautiful chandelier. It is simple to do yourself, but most people would rather buy a chandelier that is already distressed because it is hard to perfect a distressed look without having to repaint if you have never done it before.

The wonderful thing about a distressed chandelier is how easily it fits into most home décor. Although it definitely portrays an image of an antique, if done the right way it could very easily add a little unexpected surprise to a modern room. The distressed look usually comes in white, but it has been known to be used on wrought iron, or bronze finishes depending on how formal you want the chandelier to be. Wrought iron tends to be more rustic and comfortable, which the distressed bronze or brass tends to be for a more opulent room. White distressed would look perfect in a French country or a Cape Cod style home. White goes with anything, so if you are looking for the distressed look, you can’t go wrong with a white distressed chandelier.
